It is great to know where and how an institution stands compared to others in the field. It is all the more important when the rankings holds a lot for your future. Concerted effort goes into ensuring that the institution lands into one such ranking as better the rank means more prestige and more money and it is quite obvious that such rankings smell of biases.
But now that the government themseves has got into the ranking business, it is time to take a serious look. The Ministry of Human Resource Development produced the ‘India rankings 2018’ document that highlighted top institutions in medicine among others. As expected the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) emerged as the nation’s best medical school. The rankings provided the top 25 medical institutions in India.
Five parameters were assessed – teaching resources, research practices, graduation outcomes, inclusivity of students and perceptions among peer group and public. Although it seems only a few institutions participated in the survey... @100 or so... We can expect more and more participation in the coming years with institutions striving to meet higher standards and thereby serving the citizens in a better way.
As of today there is no placement difficulties or lack of job opportunities in hospitals for every Medical Doctor coming out of medical colleges in India. Whether they are in Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kerala, Karnataka or Rural areas of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan or Gujarat, the demand for doctors surpass the availability.
